Segment 1
Today we are talking about your home and the things in your home that may be making you sick. All too often we treat patients with things like allergies or recurrent infections without getting to the root of the problem. We have a special guest coming up later this hour, Danny Lipford, who is the host of the nationally-syndicated TV and Radio program Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford. It’s a show that you don’t want to miss – and you will want to share with your friends and your spouse later through the podcast. Our goal is to help you make your home a healthier place to live.

This is an interesting study, and it is a little counter intuitive. The NIH/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has found that infants that are at risk for a peanut allergy, if fed peanuts early, are 81% less likely to develop that allergy. The LEAP (Learning Early About Peanut Allergy) came about because Israeli children apparently have lower rates of peanut allergy compared to Jewish children of similar ancestry, but who live in the UK. Israeli children begin consuming peanut-containing foods early in life, whereas it is generally introduced later in life in those living in the UK. Turns out the hunch was right, and infants should be introduced to common allergens like peanuts early on.
