Did you know, there could be a link between depression and watching your favorite television show? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Don’t get me wrong, an hour on the couch curled with your favorite characters is fine, but don’t let it turn into four or five hours. Binge watching television is a where the real problem comes in. Researcher at the University of Texas in Austin found that catching up on your favorite series to the tune of hours at a time is hazardous to your health. Turns out that those who binge watch or do show marathons have a higher risk of depression. Not only is too much continuous watching bad for your mind, it’s also a recipe for a variety of other health problems. Other research has shown that sitting for long periods of time can slow metabolism, decrease blood flow, and lower hormone levels. So take those favorite shows in one at a time and keep moving the other hours of the day.
