The Staying Young Show

Show Topic: Healing with Nutraceuticals – What Science is Telling Us

Co-Hosts: Judy Gaman, Mark Anderson, Walter Gaman

Guest: None

Segment 1

Discussion 4.5 min.

We get asked so many questions about nutraceuticals that we decided to do an entire show on some of the latest research on natural ways to heal and prevent.

  • (Connect) Share how your own mind has changed over the years. Why don’t medical schools focus more on the natural prevention and cure and less on the manufactured and artificial medications that are often just a band aide?
  • Talk about how micronutrient testing often correlates with the symptom list
  • Discuss the over prescribing epidemic
  • (Inspire) Changes we have seen in patients. Explain why we started our own pharmaceutical brand. (discuss GF and Vegetarian

MUSIC FOR DOC SHOCK (JIM)

A study published in the American Society of Human Genetics has given us even more proof that heavy drinking and any amount of smoking or even exposure to smoke, accelerates the aging process dramatically. Researchers were able to measure the epigenetic changes to DNA when exposed to these toxins.

Segment 2

About tease – 1 min. – coming up – so many studies out about different ways natural ingredients can help with prevention and healing. We’re going to run through them in detail. I know you will agree that we are on the cusp of some serious break-throughs.

ANDERSON - Immortal minute – 2 min.

Start with sponsorship statement below!!!!!!!

“This Immortal Minute is brought to you by - Solis mammography – exceptional experience and exceptionally accurate results”

Today’s show is dedicated to natural healing. With way too many pharmaceuticals being prescribed, and too many people addicted to medications, we wanted to share some good news about natural healing – lots of studies being released on how different nutraceuticals are going to change the way we practice medicine

Discuss

  1. Resveratrol – what it is and the latest research findings
  2. Two studies about Calcium – one says calcium supplements should not be given for fracture prevention (BMJ) the other says that we have serious issues with nutritional deficiencies, not just with calcium, but also with Vitamin D – this is from the International Osteoporosis Foundation. What is interesting about this is that the first study did not seem to take into account Vitamin D. You need vitamin D in order to absorb calcium!
  3. A study out of Ohio State University found that about 35 % of the population has a vitamin E deficiency – especially those people with metabolic syndrome. This is a chicken and egg thing because you need Vitamin E to control fat in the body. Turns out that people with metabolic syndrome may need high doses of vitamin E supplements, or they need to watch what they take it with. Taking Vitamin E with milk fat, like a glass of milk or a square of cream cheese can increase the absorption of the vitamin E by as much as three times. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/10/151007144838.htm

Tease 20 sec. - SHOUT OUT TO MILITARY, Facebook (stay young media group) , download podcasts – follow us on twitter @StayYoungMedia coming up - more interesting research on nutrition – including what women need to build lean muscle.

Segment 3

Judy – Tease the upcoming Dementia Defender 844-WELL100

We are spending the whole hour talking about some of the latest research on nutrition and nutraceuticals. There are so many ways you can heal and prevent illness naturally. Too many docs are out there prescribing too many medications.

Discuss

  1. American Journal of Preventative Medicine released a study showing that packaged food purchases are up, while the nutritional content of such food continues to decline!
  2. The old saying that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Love this – rice starch manufactures have been paying big bucks to dispose of the left overs when they extract the starch from the rice. Now, new technology thanks to European technologists is allowing them to grab the protein and peptides from that rice and sell it for repackaging in cosmetics, as well as sell it to supplement companies. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/10/151001095801.htm
  3. New study out of Brazil shows that women, especially after menopause can gain muscle with the help of Vitamin D3. Sarcopenia – the medical term for loss of muscle mass can be prevented by taking vitamin D supplements. In the study, they found a 25% increase in muscle strength. This is important because stronger muscles mean less falls and less injury. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/09/150930073102.htm
  4. Discuss gut biome – New study out of Texas A&M and University of North Carolina shows that eating dried plums (prunes?) can help keep the gut bacteria healthy and significantly reduce the risk of colon cancer.

Segment 4

Judy Announcement tease DD 844-Well100 – 30 sec.

MEDICAL TRIVIA - Lorenzo Flores (author, career coach)--

Dr. Anderson – Are you going to do these? Let me know if I need to look some up.

Talking about nutrition – the University of Montreal made a great discovery which may save the lives of hundreds if not thousands of preemies. Babies between 26-31 weeks have to be fed intravenously with a highly nutritious substance. As it turns out, if this IV food is exposed to light, it can actually produce oxidants that the baby is unable to fight off. Keeping the IV nutrition from light, gives the baby more of a chance of survival. The study showed as much as a 50% reduction in mortality– Sometimes the simplest things can make the biggest differences!

DEMENTIA DEFENDER

A sharpshooter hung up his hat and put on a blindfold. He then walked 100 yards, turned around, and shot a bullet through his hat. The blindfold was a perfectly good one, completely blocking the man's vision. How did he manage this?
