Are you nuts about nuts? That may be a good thing! This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Eating a small bowl of mixed nuts a day could help improve your cardiovascular health, memory, and sperm. Did you know that nuts can also aid in weight loss? Two new studies out of Harvard and San Diego State University found that nut consumption can help kick start the metabolism. On average, an adult gains 1 pound a year. The study out of Harvard found that replacing 1 snack a day with 1 ounce of mixed nuts helped to prevent weight gain in adults. The San Diego study found that Brazil nuts can decrease glucose levels and increase insulin release. So, if you have type two diabetes, this should be your snack of choice!
