How nutty are you? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Many people avoid nuts because they think they’re high in fat. While it’s true that nuts do have fat, it’s a good fat. The kind of fat that is good for your brain and encourages sharper thinking. Nuts may also aid in weight loss and the prevention of diabetes or metabolic syndrome. Research shows that people who eat nuts often have a higher metabolism. As far as nutrition, you can count on nuts to supply your body with vitamin E for healthy skin and magnesium which helps regulate several parts of your health, including your sleep cycle. So, next time you’re at the store, be sure to grab nuts, not chips, to snack on. Some of my personal favorites because of their high nutrient levels are pistachios and walnuts. Not sure which ones you like best? Go for a container of mixed nuts – but be sure to avoid nuts that have been salted. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas a global leader in anti-aging and preventative health. Visit EMTexas.com that’s EMTexas.com
