Are you mixing carbonation and alcohol together? If so, beware. Carbonated mixed drinks speed up alcohol absorption in the bloodstream, so the effects of that drink happen much more quickly than you think. Maryland college studies suggest that individuals report drinking only 1 mixed and carbonated drink felt as if they had consumed 2+. This is very important news for those college age adults who tend to overdo it on alcohol and especially mixed alcoholic beverages Don’t turn your body into a chemistry project, instead remember that mixing any two substances can have an unanticipated effect on your body.

We should all stop and consider how much sugar we really take in each day? Sugar is addicting and not good for health and longevity. Did you know that one 20oz cola has 65grams of sugar? Well, if that surprised you—it should! That is 3 day’s worth of a sugar high—and much much more than any of us should ever be ingesting! Especially not our children who tend to drink one cola after another. Whether you’re packing a school lunch or your brown bag for the office, keep the sugary drinks and processed and packaged foods away. Adopt the attitude that if you don’t buy it, you won’t pack it. Making small adjustments like this will help keep your weight down and your energy levels up.

We know that smoking is generally terrible for your body, mind, and wellbeing—but did you know it also affects your sleep schedule? A new study from the University Of Oregon suggests that Smokers are four times more likely to experience feelings of restlessness after a night's sleep than non-smokers. Even with 8 full hours regularly, smokers report more restlessness and fatigue in a given week than nonsmokers. Obtaining from smoking for just 2 weeks reduces those symptoms, and increases generally mood---so there is hope for those that still smoke! Give it up, for your health and your piece of mind!

A new study shows that rinsing your nose with a salt water solution regularly can help fight allergies. Dr. Melissa Pynnonen from the Michigan Sinus Center says that regular nasal irrigation is an inexpensive and easy way to find relief from allergies, stuffy nose, and nasal congestions. A simple yet effective technique is to pour a saline solution into one nostril and let it run out through the other while the mouth is kept open to breathe, using gravity as an aid. There are also inexpensive kits at the drug store available to make the process a lot easier and faster. Dr. Pynnonen suggest that the family use nasal irrigation as a regular part of their nightly routine—to keep the stifles at bay during the cold months.

The link between food and sex drive isn’t just wishful thinking. Maybe you should rethink your breakfast. For example, eating oatmeal may help release your testosterone into the blood stream. Testosterone is good for both men and women. And about that fruit - vitamin C in in citrus fruits like oranges can increase fertility in men. Vitamin B found in honey, bananas, spinach, and potatoes helps the body produce estrogen which is key for arousal and blood flow. On the flip side, baked goods and dairy can kill your sex drive. Bottom line, watch what you eat if you want to put a little romance back in your life.

Could looking at yourself too often and too much make you unhappy? Researchers thinks so. A new study shows that people who gaze at their reflections for up to ten minutes at a time can become anxious and depressed about their looks - even if they were perfectly happy with them to start with. There’s actually a condition called body dysmorphia disorder where people constantly worry about their looks of shape. After reading this study on reflection, I have to ask myself, should we be discouraging all these selfies? One would have to conclude that snapping a picture and zooming in would cause the same affect. My advice – stop checking – everyone looks beautiful to me!
