Have you heard the old saying “comparison is the thief of joy”? Well what if I told you that sometimes comparison is a good thing, especially when it comes to working out? According to a study from Ohio, harnessing a personal rivalry can motivate runners to train and race harder and faster. So, the next time you want to crush a 5K, look to a rival you already have or form a new one. Ideal rivals are similarly aged people of the same gender who have run many races together and tend to finish with similar times. If you’re not a runner, you can simply get a contest going between you and a spouse or friend at the gym. Find someone to not just motivate you, but to compete with you. It might just be the fire you need get you up and going again.
