Do you Stroll, walk briskly or go for power? The speed, not the distance determines the rate you burn calories. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. You’ve seen them all around you – the power walkers, the strollers, and everyone in between. While they may all go the distance, it’s the speed of which they travel that will change their metabolism. Those who stroll burn just under 250 calories an hour, while brisk walkers burn about a hundred more in that same hour. As for those power walking, go getting, on a mission type – they can burn well over 550 calories per hour. My advice to you, get moving, but do it quickly. Your thighs will thank you.
