When’s the last time you inventoried your medicine cabinet? That’s probably too long. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Today’s tip is all about cleaning out the bathroom cabinet. Things like cough medicines, sunscreens, antiseptics, and even bandaids can expire and go bad. Expiration can either mean that they are no longer effective or safe. When you start your inventory and replenish task, look for expiration dates, unsealed packages, bandaid wrappers that have discolored and toss them out in the trash. Even sunscreen from last year should be replaced, especially if you exposed it to high temperatures. Just remember to keep a list of what you throw away so that you can replace it. There’s nothing worse than headed to the cabinet only to find that your peroxide bottle is empty or you don’t have any antibiotic cream for a cut. Keep your medicine cabinet neat, tidy, and up to date because it’s something you normally don’t’ think of until it’s too late.
