Want to prevent cancer, specifically colon cancer? Make changes to your diet. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Your whole life you have heard that you need to eat more vegetables and fresh fruit. Even if they didn’t know why, our ancestors new it made us healthier. According to the Journal Nature Communications, eating more veggies improves your gut bacteria and allows for the production of short chain fatty acids. These short chain fatty acids get into your gut lining and change the cells’ behavior, ultimately influencing your genetic expression.  Short chain fatty acids also regulate croto-ny-lations and when these are regulated your risk of cancer, particularly colon cancer goes down. This is just another reason why you need to shop the perimeter of the store. Fill your cart with as many fresh veggies and fruits as you can. Small changes like this can have a big impact on your future health. There is so much great information about how you can prevent cancer and other life-changing illnesses. That is why Executive Medicine of Texas is bringing you this Stay Young Medical Minute. Visit EMTexas.com or call 800-910-EXEC That’s EMTexas.com or 800-910- E-X-E-C
