How much sleep are you getting? Probably not enough. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. It’s recommended that you sleep for seven and a half to eight hours a night. That’s good, deep, uninterrupted sleep that so many are not getting. Scientists at the Washington State University Spokane took tiny groups of brain cells and watched them sleep and watched them wake up. They noticed that when the cells were induced to stay awake longer, they made up for it with rebound sleep. This further clarified that our bodies need sleep on a cellular level. Without it, the cells do not have time to rest and repair in preparation for the next day. Next time you are tempted to skip sleep, think about the affects it will have on your body. And if you’re trying to stay young and healthy for as long as possible, sleep must get the attention it needs. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by the leader in preventative and proactive medicine, Executive Medicine of Texas.
