Do you have trouble turning off bad thoughts? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Have you ever been stuck in a rut where the negative thoughts keep coming, interrupting your daily tasks and even your ability to sleep? New research shows that lack of sleep can make you more susceptible to bad thoughts and a cycle of repetitive negative thinking. Making one bad night lead to another bad day. With all the distractions in life, like television, smart phones, and computers, we need to be sure we take adequate screen breaks and get the sleep we need. Remember, all these devices should be avoided at least two hours before bed so that their blue light does not interrupt your natural sleep cycle. If you find yourself being a negative person, increase the amount of sleep you get. On average, adults need seven and a half hours of uninterrupted sleep and quality sleep is just as important as the quantity of sleep you get.
