Turmeric contains curcumin, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Daily consumption of a certain form of curcumin improved memory and mood in people with mild, age-related memory loss. Researchers at UCLA performed a double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 40 adults ages of 50 and 90 years who had mild memory issues. Participants were randomly assigned to placebo or 90 milligrams of curcumin twice daily for 18 months. People taking curcumin improved by 28 percent on their memory tests.
