How you handle bad news may affect your overall health. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. While we like things to always be positive in our lives, it’s not possible to avoid bad news forever. Everyone gets it at one point or another. How we process that news is a direct reflection of how it will affect our overall health. First, be sure to work through the emotions. It’s ok to feel sad, afraid or even mad about bad news. Don’t hold it in – express your feelings. Then, don’t avoid the problem. Hearing it and talking about it will help the body cope. Once the reality has set in, wrap your brain around it and look for something good or visualize yourself on the other side of the issue. Remember, morning is a process. Whether it’s a loss of a job, a death in the family, or a personal trial, this too shall pass. Allow yourself to process, but don’t get stuck in phase one or two of the process, let your mind and body work through it and heal. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a global leader in preventative and proactive health. Visit EMTexas.com that’s EMTexas.com.
