How many grams of sugar do you drink on any given day? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. We often talk about how many calories we should eat on any given day or the grams of sugar we should eat, but rarely do we focus on what we tend to drink. Drinks are not immune from the daily count and maybe the hidden reason you’re gaining weight. A can of typical soda can have 150 calories or more and nearly 40 grams of sugar. As a reminder, 40 grams is over the recommended daily dose of sugar for the total of what you eat or drink in a given day. A small glass of juice with breakfast may do the same with roughly 130 calories and 23 grams of sugar. The best way to make sure you’re not drinking your figure away is to opt for water. If you don’t like plain water, add a slice of fruit or slices of cucumber to it. There’s actually been research that regular soda drinkers that cut it out of their routine will weigh 7-10 pounds less at the end of the year. And that’s without changing anything else.
