How much water do you drink per day? I bet it’s not enough. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. There’s a formula for how much water you need to drink. It goes like this. Take the number of pounds you weight and cut that number in half. So if you weigh 200 lbs you need 100 ounces of water per day. Most of us barely get half that amount. Not only is proper hydration good for your skin and your brain function, drinking more water could help you lose weight. Some research shows that drinking 64 ounces or water in the morning can increase your metabolism by 24-30%. Don’t let hydration be an afterthought, instead drink at least 12 ounces of water in the first hour you are awake and continue drinking so that you hit that target number, half your body weight by dinner. Anything after should be considered a bonus. Remember, coffee and tea don’t count because the caffeine content has a dehydrating effect. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in proactive and preventative health.
