Are you an egg white eater? You really should rethink eating the yolk. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. For years, eggs got a bad rap. All the initial research on eggs raising cholesterol and adding to heart disease risk has been debunked. The reality is that eggs, including the yolk, are very nutritious and healthy and don’t have any significant risk for increasing bad cholesterol and causing heart disease. In fact, almost all or the nutrients in an egg are found in the yolk. One egg has only 75 calories but is packed with protein -7 grams of pure high-quality protein and only 5 grams of fat. The yolks contain iron, and numerous vitamins and other minerals. As a matter of fact, they contain high amounts of vitamin D3, a vitamin that many Americans are deficient in. Not all eggs are created equal and I recommend that you opt for eggs from free range chickens. So go ahead, start your day with two scrambled eggs. The protein will help keep you full and the nutrients will power up your brain for the full day ahead. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in proactive and preventative health.
