This is Judy Gaman, author of the award winning book Age to Perfection: How to Thrive to 100, Happy, Healthy, and Wise and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Each day I bring you one new tip that will help you stay young and vibrant.
Do you have a green thumb? If not, you should get one. Gardening has been proven to relieve stress and increase longevity. Connecting with the earth, the smells of the fresh herbs, and the simple exercise that comes with tending a garden all play a role in improving health. In two different studies, people in their 60s and 70s who regularly gardened had a 36% and 47% lower risk of developing dementia. My challenge to you is to find a place to garden, even if it is a small space, and plant something. Make this the year you enjoy nature and eat the fruits of your labor.
