Endo—what? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young medical minute. It is estimated that around 1 in 10 women in the US suffer from endometriosis. Endometriosis occurs when uterine lining grows outside of the uterus and into other parts of the body. Symptoms of endometriosis include: excessive bleeding, pain during intercourse, painful periods, pain with bowel movements or urination, and infertility. A definitive diagnosis can be made by laparoscopy. If you suffer from this disease, try using a heating pad, over the counter pain relievers, light exercise, and a pelvic massage to help with the pain. Studies have also shown that changing your diet can also help with symptom control. Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms of endometriosis.
