Show Topic: Reversing Chronic Disease through Lifestyle Modification

Co-Hosts:  Judy Gaman, Mark Anderson, Walter Gaman

Guest: no guest

Segment 1

Intro – 30 sec.

Interesting show today as we tackle the subject of infectious disease. For example, do you know the difference between a virus and a bacterial infection? Have you heard of the new zika virus?

(Define) Define virus vs bacterial infection and give examples

Virus: A microorganism that is smaller than a bacterium that cannot grow or reproduce apart from a living cell. A virus invades living cells and uses their chemical machinery to keep itself alive and to replicate itself. Examples: cold and flu

A bacterial infection is any type of infection that is caused by bacteria rather than a virus or other organism. Bacteria are very common in our bodies and in the world around us. Many of them are helpful. Less than 1% of bacteria will actually make us sick. When they do make us sick, they are called "bacterial infections". Examples: salmonella, staph, or strep

(Connect) How you go about figuring out which a patient has

(Inspire) Education will help you better understand infections you may be exposed to

MUSIC FOR DOC SHOCK (JIM)

As if we need another reason to preach to everyone about the dangers of artificial sweeteners!  A new study out of the Weizmann Institute of Science's Department of Immunology shows that artificial sweeteners actually manipulate our gut bacteria, attacking the important gut biome and causing diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The study showed a change in glucose tolerance after exposure to artificial sweeteners. Not only do these things make you sick, they also make you fat. If you can’t metabolize glucose properly, your entire metabolism is shot!
