Do you know the difference between a cold and seasonal or environmental allergies? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Have you ever had someone sneeze or cough on you and then tell you not to worry it’s just allergies, only to find yourself sick a few days later? Most people don’t know how to tell the difference. If you have a fever, it’s most likely a cold. If you’re so called cold symptoms don’t resolve within a week or two, its most likely allergies. When your symptoms start and how constant they are could also be an indicator. Allergy sufferers tend to have good and bad moments, whereas someone with a cold feels pretty bad throughout the day and night. Even the color of your mucus could tell the story. Green and yellow usually mean a viral or bacterial infection, while clear drainage is from allergies.
