Sprains can hurt just as bad as breaks and take weeks to heal. The best way to recover quickly is to start treatment as soon as possible. Just remember the word “RICE” R which stands for Rest – you need to stay off it. I is for Ice – cold is best for reducing swelling. C is for Compression – wrap it up and protect it with an Ace bandage. E is for Elevation – keeping the injury up on a pillow. This will help prevent extra swelling. Also, be sure to keep Epsom salt at home and take it with you on camping trips, a good soak can do wonders for a bad sprain.

Honey is a natural sweetener that has may great health benefits. For example, it’s anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory. If you ask me, that makes honey quite the super food. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, you can visit your local farmers market to get honey that has been produced locally. That local honey can be added to tea or just taken by the teaspoonful to ward off those allergies and help you build natural immunity. And if you suffer from headaches, arthritis, or a poor immune system, honey should be your sweetener of choice. A fun little helpful tip for dog lovers – it works for them too!

One of the biggest misconceptions in dieting is that eating less and less often will make you lose weight. First of all, eating more often will keep your metabolism in drive, not park. Skipping meals is a great way to trick into thinking you are starving, which in turn makes it store fat for future use. Eating often is just as important as eating the right things. For example, eating chips or processed carbs often will make you fat, but eating fruits, veggies and protein will help you shed the pounds. Each time you eat, make sure one quarter of what you eat is protein. Protein helps curb your appetite and balance your blood sugar levels.

Sometimes we can’t help it, we will be in situations where what we eat isn’t going to be ideal. If you have an event coming up and you’re fretting the extra calories, do a proactive workout. You see, when you exercise your metabolism goes up and can stay up for a long as 24 hours. A good strong workout will turn on the genes responsible for metabolism. Keep in mind, you can’t make this a routine or a free ticket to ride the binge train. Exercising does not cancel out bad eating habits. Think of exercise and nutrition as one thing, not two, because when it comes to living longer – it takes both.

Could small group meditation be the perfect answer to decreasing stress and easing depression? According to a study from Lund University in Sweden, group meditation is as effective as cognitive behavior therapy. This leaves me wondering how much money companies could save if meditation was simply offered over the lunch hour, or at morning or evening breaks. Not only will their healthcare costs go down, but employees could become happier. Happier employees are also more productive employees.
