Is your child a little on the chunky side? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Today I want to talk to the parents out there. What if I told you that something you are doing or not doing is giving your child a death sentence? Now that I have your attention, take a look at your kids. Are they overweight? If they are, new research shows that they are at risk for early heart disease and diabetes. Nothing could break your heart more than seeing your child suffer as a young adult, or die and early death. The good news is that you can do something about it. As a parent you have an incredible amount of control over the food your children eat and the amount of activity they get. Basically, if it’s not in the house, they won’t eat it. And as a parent, it’s your job to avoid those drive thrus. It’s also your job to set limits. Limit the amount of TV and electronics and delegate chores that keep your kids moving. You owe it to your kids to give them the best start in life.
