How much do you know about the healing powers of touch? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Did you know that touch is the first sense that we receive at about 8 weeks of gestation. Touch is also the last sense to leave us when we die. With today’s technology, we are less likely to get the daily touches in – there is too much interaction on social media, texting, and email– and not enough hand shaking or back patting. Researchers have long known that the power of touch can heal the body and relieve stress. Humans need touch to thrive – with over 5 million touch receptors; our bodies are craving physical connections. Today when you go home, hug your kids a little tighter, give your spouse a back rub, or go see an elderly loved one and be sure to touch them when you talk to them. For more unique and useful health information on more than 100 different topics, visit STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM where you can also find my book, Aged to Perfection, How to Thrive to 100, Happy Healthy & Wise. How much do you know about your family medical history? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Family medical history can serve as a tool for you and your healthcare provider. Clues as to what diseases and disorders you may be more susceptible to will help your doctor be more in tune with your needs and develop a screening plan that makes sense for you and your body. Did you know that men may have an increased risk for prostate cancer if their mother had breast cancer? Or that 99% of colon cancer is curable if found early. So – ask the questions and get the history, but keep in mind, just because your dad had a heart attack or uncle Bob had lung cancer doesn’t mean a death sentence for you. Environmental influences and lifestyle choices play a big role in whether bad genes ever get turned on or stay dormant. You have the power to live a healthier future! Get started today by visiting STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM. Our website is loaded with valuable information on more than 100 different health topics. Does the Timing of Your Dinner Matter? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay

Young Medical Minute. If you live an active life or have a crazy work schedule, you

may be eating dinner a little late each night. New research out of the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia shows that eating later can lead not only to weight gain, but also put you at a higher risk for diabetes and heart disease. We’ve always heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. My advice to you is to eat a hearty breakfast with protein and fruit, a healthy light lunch and a healthy dinner. But be sure to eat dinner as early as possible and never eat right before you go to bed. You have the power to live a healthier future! Get started today by visiting STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM. Our website is loaded with valuable information on more than 100 different health topics. Your body will thank you, for visiting STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM.

Worried that your baby is on the small side? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. 1 in 4 children worldwide experience stunted growth at a young age due to poor nutrition. Even children in developed countries may be lacking the protein they need to grow tall and grow strong. New research from Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, MO shows that feeding one egg per day to children aged 6 to 9 months for 6 months could decrease their risk of stunted growth by 47%. Scrambled eggs are soft and easy to chew. They can also be ground up and added to apple sauce. Best part, eggs are a natural way to promote growth and do it without side effects. Even if your child isn’t stunted in their growth, a good source of protein is vital to overall health, so have them learn to love eggs. Do you Stroll, walk briskly or go for power? The speed, not the distance determines the rate you burn calories. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. You’ve seen them all around you – the power walkers, the strollers, and everyone in between. While they may all go the distance, it’s the speed of which they travel that will change their metabolism. Those who stroll burn just under 250 calories an hour, while brisk walkers burn about a hundred more in that same hour. As for those power walking, go getting, on a mission type – they can burn well over 550 calories per hour. My advice to you, get moving, but do it quickly. Your thighs will thank you. Are you a white or brown rice person? Maybe you shouldn’t be either. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. This is your brain, this is your brain on grains. Most of us grew up thinking rice was healthy and while brown rice is better than white rice, perhaps you should chose something altogether different. Quinoa or barley have more nutritional value and may be a healthier option. Keep in mind that all grains should only be consumed in small amounts. A serving size is not what you get in your typical restaurant, so be sure to measure it out and consume no more than a half cup per day. Keep in mind that a serving is for fuel and more than that turns to fat. You have the power to live a healthier future! Get started today by visiting STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM. Our website is loaded with valuable information on more than 100 different health topics. Your body will thank you, for visiting STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM.
