Even if you don’t drink enough to die, these drinks have been associated with high blood pressure, vomiting, and heart palpitations. The study also showed that young people who drink energy drinks are more likely to engage in risky behavior. So, make healthier choices and forgo the quick fix that may cause more harm than good. Get started on a path to better health by visiting STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM. Our website is loaded with valuable information on more than 100 different health topics. Are you an asparagus fan? If not you should be. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. A member of the lilly family, this vegetable is filled with fiber and protein. Believe it or not, the stalks contain nutrients that protect you against cancer and heart disease. And – it’s great for protecting the skin and body against aging because asparagus contains glutathione. Want to absorb more nutrients when you eat? Have a side of asparagus with your meal. The inulin, which is a special type of carbohydrate found in this vegetable can actually make your body uptake more nutrients in the large intestine. Next time your loved one says they don’t like asparagus, you can give them all the reasons they need to eat it. Exercise is important to overall health, but do you need some tips on how to stick to a plan? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Exercise always sounds good, but keeping a date with yourself to actually do it can be a problem. Research shows that teaming up for a challenge with a reward system actually has a high success rate. So basically, bet your co-worker $50 that you can keep your workout schedule. If you just need to challenge yourself, keep a jar and deposit $10 for every workout. Then at the end of 90 days, spend that money on something fun. It doesn’t matter where your motivation comes from, just get it done. Exercise is vital to good health, not only is it important for weight loss, it helps ward off depression and can improve your brain power. Exercise is also a great way to counteract the pain of arthritis. For more unique and useful health information on more than 100 different topics, visit STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM where you can also find my book, Aged to Perfection, How to Thrive to 100, Happy Healthy & Wise. Are you already day dreaming of fall?  This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute.  Fall is headed our way and for most of the country that means changing leaf colors, boots, and pumpkin everything!  Well, I have some good news for you.  Turns out, pumpkin has some great health benefits! Pumpkin seeds, juices, and even leaves are full of vitamins and minerals.  It can help with eye health, blood pressure, protect against asthma, and heart disease.  Not only is it good for your health, but it can also be stored for up to 2 months in a cool, dark place (if it hasn’t been carved yet).  Be sure to stay away from the canned pie mixes if possible because they contain high amounts of sugar and other additives.  What are you waiting for?  Enjoy all of the pumpkin you can this year.  This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in preventative and proactive medicine. Stop stressing me out!  This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute.  How many times have you heard someone tell you that your stress is stressing them out?  Turns out, that may be true.  A new study out of Cumming School of Medicine's Hotchkiss Brain Institute found that stress can be transmitted from one person to another—almost like it’s “contagious”.  You may be thinking, “Well duh! I already knew that!”.  But, the study showed that the stress was transferred in such a way that the subject felt like they were experiencing the stressful event for themselves—not just hearing about it.   If you are feeling over stressed, try meditating, journaling, or coloring.  Talk to your doctor about other options if you are unable to get control of the situation.  This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in preventative and proactive medicine. Learn why patients from around the globe trust Executive Medicine of Texas to their health. Visit EMTexas.com that’s EMTexas.com.

Do you drink and medicate?  This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute.  It is a well-known fact that acetaminophen can lead to liver damage when taken for prolonged periods.  In fact, nearly 30,000 people are hospitalized with acute liver failure due to acetaminophen use.  Well, alcohol can also lead to liver damage.  When used together, it can lead to a slew of side effects and issues including: bleeding ulcers, upset stomach, and a rapid heartbeat.  However, one of the most severe side effects is liver damage.  You only have one liver and a transplant is nearly impossible to receive when damage was caused by alcohol use.  It is recommended to talk to your doctor before taking acetaminophen if you consume three or more alcoholic drinks a day. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in preventative and proactive medicine.
