Do you pay attention to the temperature of your coffee or other hot drinks? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. We all do it, grab a piping hot drink to warm us up during cold weather, but did you know that sipping on drinks that are too hot can actually increase your risk for esophageal cancer? It’s true. Much of the esophageal squamous cell carcinoma that is seen today originates from cells being damaged from hot liquids. So next time you reach for that java or tea, make sure you give it some time to cool off. Over 15 thousand people die each year from esophageal cancer – don’t be one of them. Think warm, but not too hot. Also, teach this to your kids and loved ones. With a coffee shop on every corner, we need to be sure we are protecting ourselves from the hidden danger in hot drinks. There’s so much to know about healthy living. You can always turn to StayYoungAmerica.com to learn more. You can also pick up my book Stay Young: 10 Proven Steps to Ultimate Health.
