Do you know the fastest growing class of cancers in the united states? This is Judy Gaman. It may shock you to hear that thyroid cancer is the fastest growing cancer in the US. The thyroid is a butterfly shaped organ in the neck. It’s very important to the body and helps regulate metabolism, temperature, and much more. Sometimes the cells in the thyroid become abnormal and they can become cancerous. This is much more common in women, but it can happen in men too. If you see your physician for a physical exam and the do not exam your neck, be sure to remind them. Thyroid blood tests are also becoming a common part of yearly labs. If the physician feels something abnormal in the thyroid, they will order an ultrasound, a test that uses sound waves to detect nodules. The good news about thyroid cancer is that it is highly treatable and often resolves if removed early on. So bottom line, see your physician yearly and get your thyroid examined. There’s so much to know about health living. You can hear more Stay Young Medical Minutes and the Staying Young Radio Show episodes at StayYoungAmerica.com that’s StayYoungAmerica.com
