Want to sit back with some popcorn and a good movie? Well, it may be just what the doctor ordered. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Isn’t it great when we find health benefits in an old favorite pastime? That’s right I am giving you permission to watch and snack. However – there are a few caveats – first the popcorn must be air popped and no added salt or butter. Think of popcorn as a whole grain – one that actually tastes good. Popcorn contains powerful antioxidants that fight off free radicals within the body. Not to mention – it’s full of fiber. And – about that movie – well make it a comedy. Watching funny movies and laughing will exercise your face and abs. It will also release endorphins – the feel good hormones in your body. Even if you’re in a bad mood or down in the dumps, a good comedy can help turn things around. Oh – one last thing – no more than two movie nights a week - because remember – active exercise still trumps sitting!
