The Staying Young Show

Show Topic: Knee Pain and Knee Replacement with Dr. Robert Bayless

Co-Hosts: Dr. Gaman, Judy Gaman, Mark Anderson

Guest: Robert Bayless – In studio

Segment 1

Today we are talking all about your knees. According to statistics, 719,000 knee replacements were done in the US in 2014 and that number is expected to climb dramatically as time goes on. We decided to bring in an expert on knees and someone we have a great deal of respect for, Dr. Robert Bayless, orthopedic surgeon with Irving Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. If you or someone you love is having knee issues, this is a show that you don’t want to miss.

  • (Connect) As doctors (Gaman and Anderson), how often do you see people with knee problems in primary care? Is that number going up?
  • Reasons you think the patients with knee issues are getting younger. Sports? Lack of natural use? – All docs
  • (Inspire) Things have improved so much and joint replacement is much easier on the body. – talk about the old days and crazy recovery times

MUSIC FOR DOC SHOCK (JIM)

A study out of Florida Atlantic University found that we are getting way to lazy for our own good. A lack of physical activity is responsible for 22 percent of heart disease, 22 percent of colon cancer, 18 percent of fractures due to osteoperosis, 12 percent of diabetes and high blood pressure, and even 5 percent of breast cancer, yet 36% of adults aren’t moving enough. So get up and go for a brisk walk every morning or evening – don’t be a statistic!
