Segment 1
Intro – 30 sec.
Today’s show is all about the aging process, what makes us age and what we can do about it. There’s lots of talk about the use of growth hormone and other anti-aging techniques, so today we will demystify the truths from the fiction.
THAT MUSIC MEANS IT’S TIME FOR DOC SHOC. A TIME WHEN WE FIND SOMETHING SHOCKING IN THE NEWS OR WE’RE SHOCKED IT MADE THE NEWS.
This is a great study, because it proves that doctors don’t learn everything in medical school – there is always more. This research is out of the NIH/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. It has long been believed that the brain is exempt from “plumbing” or lymph drainage. New research shows that there is actually a lymph system that carries the waste out of the brain. This is significant, because it may give new clues to neurological disorders like MS and Parkinson’s. This also sheds some light on the brain/immune system connection. Ironically, an Italian medical scientist in 1816 reported seeing these vessels but was ignored and it was never talked about again for 2 centuries!
