Wouldn’t it be great if screening colonoscopies could be a thing of the past? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Listen up, because RMIT University may be my favorite new place. They just invented a small capsule that you swallow the same way you would swallow medicine. It measures the gases within the colon looking for disturbances of the gut microbiome as well as cancer. It just passed human trials, meaning that it’s safe and now its going into full research mode. If it passes (no pun intended) the clinical trials, it could revolutionize who we analyze the gut, perhaps doing away with screening colonoscopies and that dreaded cleanout process. One even more interesting finding from early studies – they proved that the inside of the colon actually contains oxygen which before physicians believed there was no free oxygen within the colon. And the more fiber in the diet, the more oxygen the gut holds. This may be why fiber has proven to prevent cancer and attribute to better overall gut health. There is so much to learn about healthy living and new research and that’s why Executive Medicine of Texas, a global leader in preventative medicine is bring you this Stay Young Medical Minute. Learn my by going to EMTexas.com or call 800-910-EXEC.
