Man, is it hot or what? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young medical minute. Summer is upon us and the heat waves keep coming. Heat stroke can be deadly and it is important to recognize the symptoms. These can include: elevated body temperature of one hundred and three degrees Fahrenheit or higher, hot skin, headache, dizziness, nausea, fainting, confusion, and a racing pulse. The CDC recommends calling 911 right away. This is a life-threatening illness. DO NOT give the person experiencing heat stroke water. It is important to move them to a cool place. While you wait for help, try to cool the person off by applying cool washcloths to their face and neck or by giving them a cool bath. Stay safe this summer and take breaks from the heat.
