Do you think that calcium is the only way to strengthen bones? Think again.  This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute.  Osteoporosis occurs when the bones weaken, making it easier for them to break.  This disease usually occurs in women after menopause.  It can be extremely painful and cause the bones to break with little impact.  This is why falls are a concern for the elderly.  A new study out of University of Missouri in Columbia showed that a diet full of soy-based proteins can lower the risk of Osteoporosis in females.  It is important to note that too much soy can lead to breast production in men.   It’s time to start reading the labels and picking foods with soy protein.  Talk to your doctor if you have questions about osteoporosis or ways to prevent it.  This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in preventative and proactive medicine.
