DOC SHOCK

Ever wonder why some smokers have an easier time quitting the nasty habit than others? Well, a new research study from Duke Medicine followed 85 smokers, taking MRI scans of their brains before and after kicking the habit. 44 of the smokers were successful, while 41 relapsed. The smokers who had success had MRI scans that showed a better connection between the insula, the part of the brain that controls urges and cravings, and the somatosensory cortex, a part of the brain that controls motor function.
