Are you obese? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young medical minute. Obesity has been identified as a risk factor for cancer. In that past, scientists have believed that caloric restriction may be key to preventing tumor growth. According to new research this may not be the case. A study published from the University of California in San Diego showed that metabolic rate may be the key to avoiding tumor growth. Instead of caloric restriction, scientists found that time restriction may be the best option. In the study, a control group and experimental group of mice were injected with breast cancer cells. The experimental group that was given access to food for only 8 hours a day had a lowered risk for tumor growth.
