Listen up ladies. What do you know about uterine cancer? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. The fourth largest cancer in women – uterine cancer, is something that most of us don’t talk about. The uterus is the hollow part of a female’s body that is often referred to as the womb. Uterine cancer happens when the cells within the uterus become abnormal, specifically malignant. Women who are obese or who have never had children are at a higher risk for this type of cancer. Symptoms include bleeding or abnormal vaginal discharge, pain during sex, or pain emptying the bladder. If you have any of these symptoms you need to see your doctor. They will examine you and if necessary perform a sonogram or even a biopsy if necessary. Catching this type of cancer early is the best way to have a good outcome. So ladies, pay attention to your body and never ignore symptoms. It’s up to you to seek medical attention when something doesn’t seem right.
