There has been so much research on alcohol, but is it ok in moderation? Well, this new research may hold the answer. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Cancer Research UK released some incredible evidence that alcohol, in any amount, may harm your body on a cellular level. The research looked at mice who were given diluted alcohol and after the researchers performed a chromosome analysis and DNA and sequencing. What they found was remarkable. When you consume alcohol, your body produces a chemical called acetaldehyde (Aset-al-dehyde), which in turn damages the body on a cellular level and causes permanent changes to the DNA. These damaged cells can then become cancerous and multiply. This is probably why alcohol has been linked to seven different types of cancer in humans. Our advice is to stop alcohol intake altogether, because leading a long and healthy life is too important to miss out on.
