Summer time brings out the best and the worst food options. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Summer food may taste good, but you need to know which ones to place on your plate and which one’s to avoid. If you’re a fan of potato or macaroni salad, opt instead for cole slaw. You’ll save yourself a number of calories and the inevitable post meal crash. Grilling out? Although those ribs may be tasty, they’re full of fat and slathered with sugary sauce. Pick chicken or steak kabobs instead, not only will you get lean protein, but if you add bell peppers to your Kabob, you’ll also get nice dose of vitamin C. Now when it comes to desert, skip the ice cream sandwiches and popsicles. Instead, freeze some grapes or blueberries in small baggies for an on the go frozen snack, or enjoy a serving of fresh fruit salad. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in preventative and proactive medicine.
