Stop stressing me out! This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. How many times have you heard someone tell you that your stress is stressing them out? Turns out, that may be true. A new study out of Cumming School of Medicine's Hotchkiss Brain Institute found that stress can be transmitted from one person to another—almost like it’s “contagious”. You may be thinking, “Well duh! I already knew that!”. But, the study showed that the stress was transferred in such a way that the subject felt like they were experiencing the stressful event for themselves—not just hearing about it. If you are feeling over stressed, try meditating, journaling, or coloring. Talk to your doctor about other options if you are unable to get control of the situation.
