Do you live from your head, your heart, your gut, or all three. Today we are going to discuss how living from each area can affect the decisions we make with our health and with our lives. We have a special guest coming up Nanette Hucknall to talk about her latest book How to Live From Your Heart

  • When different times call for different responses
  • Personal stories about each

MUSIC FOR DOC SHOCK--THAT MUSIC MEANS ITS TIME FOR DOC SHOC. A TIME WHEN WE FIND SOMETHING SHOCKING IN THE NEWS OR WE’RE SHOCKED IT MADE THE NEWS.

RMIT University may be my favorite new place. They just invented a small capsule that you swallow. It measures the gases within the colon looking for disturbances of the microbiome as well as cancer. It just passed human trials and is going into full research mode. If it passes (no pun intended) clinical trials, it could revolutionize who we analyze the gut, perhaps doing away with screening colonoscopies and that dreaded cleanout process. One even more interesting finding from early studies – they proved that the inside of the colon actually contains oxygen and the more fiber in the diet, the more oxygen the gut holds.

Do you skip the egg yolks and prefer just the whites? If so, you may be missing out on a number of health benefits. This is Judy Gaman and this your Stay Young Medical Minute. Egg yolks used to get a bad rap. For a while, doctors told patients to limit egg yolks because of the fat and the cholesterol. Now, we have a better understanding of how the benefits of yokes far outweigh the any negatives. Egg yolks contain important properties, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-cancer. As for being bad for your heart – not true – research shows that they actually help protect the heart and help maintain a healthy blood pressure. Even if you don’t have time to make scrambled eggs for breakfast, you can keep boiled and peeled eggs in the fridge for breakfast or a snack on the run. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, an international leader in preventative and proactive medicine. Visit EMTexas.com for more information.

You can “rewrite” your health future

MUSIC FOR DOC SHOCK (JIM)

A recent study published in the journal Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine, suggest that radiation exhibited by cell phones can cause oxidative stress putting the body out of balance. Oxidative stress is when free radicals (the bad guys) win the battle with antioxidants (the good guys). This stress on the body is linked to a wide range of health problems including cancer, headache, fatigue and skin changes. Sadly, this and all the other studies were only done on adults. We now have small children with cell phones. These kiddos are still in the developmental stages and we will have to wait and see – we don’t even know or understand those risks yet.

Need a boost in brain power? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. There are lots of gimics out there that claim to make your brain work faster and more efficient. What if I told you the best thing for your brain is free? New research out of the University of California, Los Angeles shows that the simple act of taking a moderate walk improves cognition, attention span, and information processing.  While ten thousand steps a day is ideal, the research shows benefits at four thousand steps. Using MRI technology the researchers were able to see a significant change in makeup of the hippocampus, the part of the brain that is responsible for memory information processing and storage. Not only does walking prevent dementia, it also improves current brain function. This tip of brain health is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas. There’s a reason patients fly in to see them from all over the globe. Call 800-910-3932 or visit EMTexas.com.

Did you know watermelon may be good for erectile dysfunction? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. If you’re having issues in the bedroom, instead of turning to that little blue pill, research shows that watermelon may be a better bet. Not only is it cheaper, it’s easily accessible. Watermelon contains an amino acid called citrulline. When you eat it, the body converts it to arginine, which then is converted to nitric oxide. Why is this important? Because nitric oxide opens blood vessels. Better blood flow is the key to correcting erectile dysfunction. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a leader in proactive and preventative medicine. There’s a reason patients fly in from all over the world to see the physicians at Executive Medicine of Texas. You can to. Call 800-910-3932 or visit EMTexas.com
