Do you know the difference between a cold and seasonal or environmental allergies? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Have you ever had someone sneeze or cough on you and then tell you not to worry it’s just allergies, only to find yourself sick a few days later? Most people don’t know how to tell the difference. If you have a fever, it’s most likely a cold. If you’re so called cold symptoms don’t resolve within a week or two, its most likely allergies. When your symptoms start and how constant they are could also be an indicator. Allergy sufferers tend to have good and bad moments, whereas someone with a cold feels pretty bad throughout the day and night. Even the color of your mucus could tell the story. Green and yellow usually mean a viral or bacterial infection, while clear drainage is from allergies. There's so much to know about living healthy... and that's why you can find all of our Medical Minutes and The Staying Young Radio Show at STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM. Do you suffer from seasonal allergies? There are a few things you can do to limit your exposure and symptoms. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Allergies are the worst. If you have them, you know. But did you know, just a few small changes to your routine could give you significant relief? For example, take a shower before bed. This will help wash the pollen out of your hair and off your skin so your pillow and sheets are making you even sicker. Also, cotton is a better fabric when you’re outdoors because it doesn’t attract allergens the same way man-made fabrics do. If you are a walker, take your walks before the sun comes up or long after it has gone down, the air is usually cleaner at those times. The Staying Young Show

Show Title: “Men’s Health 101”

Co-Hosts: Judy Gaman, Walter Gaman, Mark Anderson

Segment 1

This entire episode is dedicated to Men’s Health. We’re calling this Men’s Health 101

  • The role the wife plays in a husband’s health
  • Men’s biggest health fears – Prostate cancer, impotence

MUSIC FOR DOC SHOCK

THAT MUSIC MEANS IT’S TIME FOR DOC SHOC. A TIME WHEN WE FIND SOMETHING SHOCKING IN THE NEWS OR WE’RE SHOCKED IT MADE THE NEWS.

University of Toronto found that people can identify with rather remarkable success if a person is wealthy or poor by looking at their face. Now the faces they looked at had no expression. Turns out the muscles on a face when at rest look differently based on life experiences. Because people don’t want to be judged, they suggest that you smile. Smiling is universal and lifts the muscle in to a place where people can’t tell anything about your socioeconomic class and instead see straight through to your heart.

Is your company killing productivity at lunch? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Many companies bring in lunch for their employees either on a regular basis or as a treat. The options they choose could mean the difference between a productive day or a total loss. Choosing foods that are fresh and contain few carbohydrates is best. Meats are good as other sources of protein,, but when it comes to desert, skip the cakes and sweet treats. Instead opt for things like fresh fruit or sorbet. Heavy meals make you tired and slow down cognition while your body sends everything it has to help aid in digestion. The lunch options you chose could affect important decisions, costing you time and money in the future. Think of your employees as the gears in your company and the food they eat as the oil that keeps them moving. Remember, everyone wants a well-oiled machine so choose food wisely. Have you heard everyone talking about eating organic or non-GMO? You’re probably wondering, hey, what’s the big deal. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Organically grown foods and non-GMO foods are healthier and easier on your body at a cellular level. Genetically Modified Foods or GMO foods come from what we call “Round-up” crops. That’s because they have been genetically modified to survive being sprayed with the same chemical that is used in the product Round-up, the one you use to kill weeds in your yard. The farmers wanted a way to kill the weeds, but not the produce. But guess what? We haven’t been genetically modified to consume these chemically sprayed foods. So, it’s best to avoid them. Read labels, look for non-GMO – your body will thank you. Get started today by visiting STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM. Our website is loaded with valuable information on more than 100 different health topics. Your body will thank you, for visiting STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM.

Are you the kind of person who skips breakfast or lives for that midnight snack? When you eat could affect how fast you age. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Our cells depend on us to feed them and feed them at the right time. Eating a balanced breakfast, especially one that contains protein helps fuel the body and start the day off right. We need food at times when we utilize it the most. Therefore, eating right before bed is a no-no. Why? Because your body can’t metabolize it the same way and reacts in a way that causes cellular damage and inflammation. Inflammation, especially on a cellular level, is the root cause of most diseases. Keep a schedule that helps you help yourself – eat breakfast within the first hour os waking and your last meal at least 3 hours before you go to bed. You have the power to live a healthier future! Get started today by visiting STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM. Our website is loaded with valuable information on more than 100 different health topics. How old do you feel? How old do you look? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. If you’re looking or feeling old these days, it’s probably because you aren’t getting enough exercise in. Each day you should be taking about 10,000 steps. Unfortunately, most of us miss that mark. A good exercise routine includes flexibility, cardio, and muscle building. When you exercise regularly, you improve muscle tone, lose body fat, and reduce wrinkles. That’s right, you erase those age lines. Our body needs natural growth hormone to rebuild and maintain. The best way to get that is through regular exercise. What are you waiting for? Start tracking your steps to a younger you today. There's so much to know about living healthy... and that's why you can find all of our Medical Minutes and The Staying Young Radio Show at STAY YOUNG AMERICA DOT COM. Did you know that most people who suffer from congestive heart failure also have a zinc deficiency too? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Our daily nutritional intake is so important. Minerals like zinc help our bodies stay strong and healthy. Without them we are more susceptible to everything from heart disease to the common cold. While foods like pumpkin seeds and beans have high levels of zinc, those that come from animal sources like grass-fed beef, pasteurized chicken, and swiss cheese are easier for our bodies to digest and pull the mineral our for effective use within our own bodies. Even shellfish is a good source of zinc, so mix it up, but be sure you have a number of high zinc containing foods each week.
